Unveiling Super hydrophobic & oleophobic: What is "Dual Repellency"? How Does It Prevent Ice?
Time:[2025/12/22]

What is Super hydrophobic & oleophobic coating?

It is an advanced surface coating technology that can achieve the dual protective effects of hydrophobic & oleophobic. In simple terms, it makes the surface of the coating like that of a lotus leaf, having extremely strong repulsion for both water and oil, preventing droplets from adhering and causing them to roll off quickly.

This coating not only resists water and oil, but also has multiple functions such as self-cleaning, anti-freezing and anti-fouling. It is widely used in fields like wind power, cables, construction, and aviation, and is an ideal choice for enhancing the durability and safety of equipment.

What is the principle of the Super hydrophobic & oleophobic coating?

The anti-icing and anti-fouling principle of the super-dichroic coating is based on bionics design, imitating the microstructure of the lotus leaf:

Micro-nano structure + low surface energy material: The coating surface is constructed with micro-nano-level rough structures and covered with low surface energy materials, preventing water and oil droplets from spreading.

High contact angle + low rolling angle: The liquid droplet forms a nearly spherical shape on the coating, with a contact angle greater than 150° and a very small rolling angle, allowing it to slide off easily with a gentle touch.

Anti-icing mechanism: The ice layer is difficult to firmly adhere, and slight external force or natural temperature difference can cause the ice layer to fall off, effectively preventing the accumulation of ice.

This structure not only prevents icing, but also protects against dust and corrosion, significantly enhancing the stability and service life of the equipment in harsh environments.

How does the hydrophobic & oleophobic coating protect the safety of cables? Case studies demonstrate its anti-icing capabilities

Application of hydrophobic & oleophobic Coatings in Cable Anti-Icing

In cold and humid environments, the surface of cables is prone to icing, which can lead to serious accidents such as cable breakage and power outages. The hydrophobic & oleophobic anti-icing coating, with its unique surface properties, can significantly reduce the adhesion of ice layers and achieve:

Anti-icing: Delay the freezing time and reduce the thickness of the ice layer.

Easy de-icing: The ice layer has low adhesion and can be removed naturally through slight vibration or manual removal.

Enhanced safety: Reduce the frequency of manual ice removal, lower maintenance costs and safety risks.

Extended cable lifespan: The coating has strong weather resistance and is suitable for long-term outdoor use.

This coating has been certified by the National Key Laboratory for Grid Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and has been evaluated as an excellent product with "remarkable anti-icing effect and significantly reduced de-icing difficulty".

Case Presentation

The product has received authoritative certification from the National Grid's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Key Laboratory and has been applied on a large scale in wind power and power transmission projects of multiple entities such as Huaneng Group. The performance in these real scenarios is a strong evidence of its anti-icing performance and reliability.
